someday

Why someday?  Why not today?
We move forward through action, not words.  I’m doing something huge, and I’m doing it for myself.  I only hope to god that my actions are the right ones.

Saw Down To This (DTT?) play at TT Reynolds in Fairfax.  What a strange venue.  It’s long and skinny, and the stage faces the long wall rather than down the expanse of the bar.  Which means the band is staring at about four peope who are standing shoulder-to-shoulder against the wall behind them.  I got some free bottle openers and funny pictures out of the evening, so yay!

Fantastic movie recommendation - Old Boy.  It’s Korean (available dubbed in English).  Blew my mind away, which is hard to do since I’m extra critical when it comes to movies.  I won’t say anything more about it so as not to ruin it.  Go rent it and watch it through to the end.  Amazing.

hello???

Have you ever dreamt that you were talking into a chocolate phone, but you couldn’t dial any of the numbers because you had eaten them all off?

I have.

Got to lay off the late night nutter butters :)

Wow, haven’t updated in a while, work has been kicking my arse!

Last week was restaurant week in DC.  Our only visit was to an Italian place named Dino - my only comments on this place is that it’s unremarkable.  The menu reads european enough, but the food was far from the authentic (and ahem, tasty) treats of our compadres across the pond.  Would not recommend it.

Saw Snakes on a Plane - was fun :)

Also crashed a filipino house party with BB on friday, which would be a first in my book.  I didn’t understand what most of the people were saying (they were speaking Tagalog), but it was cool to see how others get their party on.  The host had a killer theatre room that was soundproofed and everything.  Wicked.  Afterwards we went downtown to get our own party on by joining Diana and her crew at K Street lounge.  It was packed and hot inside, but fun to dance dance dance the night away!  If jumping up and down til you pass out can be called dancing, that is.

And now, back to the grind. :(

There are two ways to say “give up” in the Chinese language.  One is to stop doing.  The other is, in literal translation dead heart, or in a friendlier translation death of the heart.  When the heart lacks the will to move on, it doesn’t matter what your hands or your body continue doing.  It spells an ending… or a beginning.  It still amazes me that with their thousands of years of wisdom and collective experience, they are able to sum up so deep of a concept in such a tiny package.. and yet so eloquently capture the spirit.

What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls a butterfly.
-Richard Bach

At long last, I am at peace.

espn?

It’s cool out.  Despite my earlier bitching about suffocating to death, I’m sad that summer is ending. :(

Kevin returned from his super awesome European roadtrip this week, and he got me my favorite HAPPY COOKIES from France, lovely wine from Cinque Terre in Italy (my favorite place in the world!), and a gorgeous mask from Venice.  How do you know what all of my favorite things are babe?  You have a beautiful soul.  You must be bulimic.

In other news, Harry is currently up in NYC trying his hand at the American Idol contest this year.  Good luck, BB!

asian idol

On Saturday I spent the day in the shoes of the paparazzi.  Our very own Harry attended the final round of DC’s Asian Idol competition held at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic (semifinal match, Sachin vs. somebody) with myself in tow to document the occasion… which was a good thing because he came in second place!!  Woohoo!!!  The day was plagued with poor organization, poor sound systems, poor acoustics, and a relentless summer sun beating down on our backs, but ended quite nicely with a smiling Harry toting his trophy home.

What an award-winning performance looks like (video to be uploaded somewhere, stay tuned):

i heart sticky bombs

It’s 3am the morning after my birthday.

I don’t know how I got to be so blessed with such wonderful friends.  More phone calls and messages and emails than I could have expected in my wildest dreams, all to send wishes that my special day is indeed special.  Lovely gifts and cards that are so personal and so thoughtfully crafted that I will keep them forever.  Friends who go out of their way to plan a lovely dinner for me, complete with delicious cheesecake for dessert (how did you know???), and entertain me afterwards at my whim.  Special thanks to BB for sportingly taking a jab up the butt to give me a gutbusting laugh to start off my year.  Although, I’m wondering if you secretly enjoyed it? ;-)

Thank you, all, for making me feel so loved.  I couldn’t imagine my life without you, and only hope that when you sleep tonight, you feel the same peace and joy that I do at this moment.

i heart my family

My family is the best.  Great dinner for my birthday.  Beautiful crystal bracelet from my mom that she painstakingly picked out and fretted over - it is the most lovely thing in the world to my eye.  Smiles all around.  They even bought special chinese cake that they know I love, and gave me extra to share with my friends.  My heart is full.
